Elena Della Bella

Dr Elena Della Bella is a Medical Biotechnologist by training and received her PhD in 2012 from the University of Bologna, Italy. She then worked in Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna, Italy, where she started her career in the musculoskeletal field. Since 2018, she joined the AO Research Institute Davos and she is now a Research Scientist and Deputy Focus Area Leader in Progenitor Cell Biology and Mechanoregulation. Her research interest focuses on the study of molecular mechanisms of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cell differentiation towards osteogenic and chondrogenic lineages, with a particular attention to the role of dexamethasone and non-coding RNAs.

Dr Elena Della Bella authored more than 35 papers. She is a member of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) and of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), where is also part of the Scientific Communications Committee (2022-24). She is Deputy Editor for Basic Science and Molecular Biology in the Craniomaxillofacial Research & Innovation journal (https://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/craniomaxillofacial-research-innovation/journal203754) and Review Editor in the Biomaterials section for Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology. She is currently a non-academic staff member of the Teaching Board of the PhD course in Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology, University of Ferrara, Italy (academic year 2021-2022, cycle XXXVII).
