Description

Basic Principles of Fracture Management is the foundation for the AO Trauma North America curriculum and is designed to teach surgeons how to manage trauma and trauma reconstruction according to the AO principles. 

Participants will get hands-on practice and gain fundamental experience in preoperative planning, decision-making, and surgical approaches.

 

Learning will be delivered through

  • Surgical techniques practice on artificial bones
  • Small group case-based discussions
  • Self-study pre-recorded lectures and assessments (prior to in-person event)

 

All AO North America resident courses are developed and consistent with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) competencies and specialty-specific Milestones program.

  • Learning objectives
    Upon completion of this event, participants will be able to
    Discuss the concepts of stability, their influence on bone healing, and how to apply implants to achieve appropriate stability
    Apply reduction techniques in fracture management with attention to the importance of the soft-tissue
    Apply related psychomotor skills to the practical application of orthopedic implants to fractured bones

  • Prerequisites

    Trauma residents PGY 2-8 and fellows.

  • Who should attend

    Those who have taken AO Trauma NA Basic Principles of Fracture Management Essentials - Online must complete one of the in-person AO Trauma NA Basic Principles Practical Labs to receive full credit for the course.
